The Museum
Artists
Every pterosaur in the museum is brought to life by a paleoartist working from fossil evidence and the latest science. These are the illustrators behind the work.

Andrey Atuchin

Elia Smaniotto
3 generaMonfalcone, ItalyElia is a self-declared freelance "artist" who attempts restoring extinct creatures between an exam session and the other. Also known by the awkward nicknames “Elijah Shandseight” and "Smnt2000", interested in geeky and nerdish stuff such as sci-fi junk, creature designing and comic books, his obsession for dinosaurs and other forgotten critters is a distant interest which turned out to be something he could never live without. He's currently graduating from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and aspires to become a proper illustrator. And a bit less of a jerk.

Fabrizio De Rossi
13 generaVienna, AustriaFabrizio is a freelance creature-, concept- and paleo-artist based in and Vienna, Austria. He has always been fascinated by creatures of all kinds and has been drawing what came to his mind from a young age. In recent years he has taken up paleoart again and has been working on dinosaur reconstructions for the University of Vienna (Struthiosaurus austriacus for the 650th anniversary), for personal projects and for the indie game project ‘The Isle’. Fabrizio’s past occupations include an education in Graphic Design (with jobs at several agencies), animal handling (as well as conceptualizing, building and maintaining of nature-inspired enclosures for reptiles, amphibians and fish) and studying at the University of Vienna. His field is paleobiology, currently studying for a bachelor’s degree about Struthiosaurus austriacus.

Jaime Bran
Jaime Headden
Portalnd, OR, USAHaving been horribly interested in paleobiology as a young’un, Jaime developed a strong interest in biomechanics and the methodology of science itself, and its application to paleobiology. This eventually led to his blog, "The Bite Stuff," where it merged with his highly inflated sense of his own importance and an interest in the properties of the evolution of dietary morphology, ecology, and nomenclature. He's currently working on producing several academic articles with a major focus on biomechanics and an interest in becoming a technical illustrator. He's also published illustrator, though the range is (so far!) limited skeletal reconstructions of some dinosaurs. Jaime is responsible for all the wingspan silhouettes on Pteros.

Julio Lacerda
35 generaRecife, BrazilBoth illustrator and graphic designer, Julio Lacerda got into paleoart at the age of 17. Wishing to bridge the creativity of reconstructing prehistoric animals and the essence of wildlife documentaries, he seeks to represent dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals as complex and realistic living beings in both appearance and behavior, being protagonists of casual scenes. His work has been published and shown at several countries like Japan (Pterosaurs exhibition, Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum), United Kingdom (All Your Yesterdays by Irregular Books), USA (official publication of Siats meekerorum, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences) as well as his home country, Brazil.

Liam Elward
1 genusChicago, Illinois, USABorn in Chicago in 1996, Liam Elward quickly developed a lifelong passion for extinct life. This vocation was nurtured by his countless visits to the Field Museum of Natural History where he observed not only a world-class fossil collection, but also the iconic murals of legendary paleoartist Charles Knight. Despite this deep interest, he only recently started down his current path as a paleoartist in 2017, at the age of 21. Since then, he has enrolled in the department of Fine and Performing Arts at Loyola University Chicago, has been interviewed for the blog “Love in the Time of Chasmosaurs”, and has contributed to the Field Museum’s Evolving Planet exhibition. Among Liam’s greatest influences for his digital reconstructions are the “All Yesterdays” movement started by John Conway, C.M. Kosemen & Darren Naish, as well as the artists and contributors here at Pteros.

Nathan E. Rogers

Nathan Rogers
11 generaMinnesota, USANathan has been a lifelong student of evolution and the diversity of life on Earth. After earning a BS in Zoology, he worked in university animal behavior labs, in agricultural fields, as part of a wildlife management field crew for a county level park system in the Midwestern US, and in various positions in science and natural history museums, all the while drawing dinosaurs and other prehistoric lifeforms in his free time. His primary artistic medium is Photoshop, used as a digital painting tool with a Wacom tablet as an input device. Some of his work can be seen in person as part of exhibits at Dinosaur State Park in Connecticut and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Texas. Nathan's hope for paleoart is that it will be enjoyable to view, while also inspiring people to learn more about science and the history and potential future of life.
